Instrumental Music

Instrumental Music Program

All students undertake a selection process in Year 2 to determine their aptitude for playing a string instrument (violin, cello or double bass). Following this process, offers to join the instrumental program are made to selected students.

In Year 3, a further selection process is undertaken to identify students who have an aptitude and desire to learn a band instrument (woodwind, brass or percussion).

Department funding provides selected children with one small group lesson, of half hour duration per week. As part of the program, students are expected to attend a before school rehearsal for either String Ensemble or Concert Band.

Violin, Cello, Double Bass (limited availability from Year 3)

Woodwind: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone

Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, French Horn, Euphonium

Percussion: (all percussion students play a variety of tuned and untuned instruments).

Instrumental Music Camps

Where possible, Instrumental Music Camps will be organised each year – including a Beginners Music Camp for all beginners and a selective (entry by audition only) camp for senior primary.

The Concert Bands and String Ensembles will have the opportunity to participate in school based performances, community performances and competitions e.g. Queensland Festival of Music, Fanfare, Eisteddfods etc.
