Year 4 Camp - Currumbin Community Farm
The Currumbin Community Farm is a campus of the
Tallebudgera Outdoor and Environmental Education Centre located in Currumbin
Valley.
Year 4 students are invited to use their imagination and embark on an experiential journey to explore what life may have been like for a jarjum (child) in the many thousands of years before first contact. A jarjum understands bush craft and survival techniques, speaks the language of the land and has a deep connection with Country.
Developed collaboratively with Yugambeh community partners and the wider Indigenous community, Connecting to Country is a two-night camp that provides opportunities for students to develop their awareness, knowledge and connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' culture, knowledge and ways of being, and their own connections with country. This is a rich and immersive experience that encourages a deeper and enduring understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' histories and knowledge by walking in the footsteps of a jarjum.
Ashmore Bike Centre Excursion
In Term 3, the Year 4 classes travel to the Ashmore Bike Centre to practise bike skills
and to learn about road safety. This interactive programme has the students not
only learning the road rules and signs, but ensures they use them with bikes
provided by the centre on a specially built road system. This road safety
programme, which is provided by the Gold Coast City Council, is only available
to Year 4 students.
