Our world is changing more rapidly than at any other time in
history with the influence of technology changing every aspect of our lives. At
Pimpama State School, students are prepared for their future by deepening STEM
skills in the subject areas of Digital Technologies (coding) and Design and
Technologies (engineering).
Digital Technologies
Pimpama State School has two dedicated STEM, coding and robotics lab. Through a range of programs, students gain foundational skills and understandings to prepare them to be
creators in a digital future. Every student from Prep to Year 6 has a
dedicated Digital Technologies lesson each week. During these ‘coding’ lessons,
students
develop their skills in creative thinking, collaboration and innovation while
covering all aspects of the Digital Technologies curriculum:
- Programming and robotics
- Online safety and digital citizenship,
- Digital systems,
- Data, and
- Designing digital solutions
Utilising state of the art robotics, students in each year
level design digital solutions to real world problems. Specifically, students
program the following robots in each year level.
Prep and Year 1
Bee Bots
Year 2 | Ozobots |
Year 3
Dash
Year 4
Makey Makey, Ozobot Evo
Year 5
mBot
Year 6
Drones
Design and Technologies
Design and Technologies at Pimpama State School focusses on
engineering designed solutions. Each semester, students complete one design and
technologies project to deepen their understanding of:
- Engineering principles and systems,
- Food and fibre production,
- Food specialisation, or
- Materials specialisation
