All students undertake a selection process
in Year 2 to determine their aptitude for playing a string instrument (violin, cello
or double bass). Following this process, offers to join the instrumental
program are made to selected students.
In Year 3, a further selection process is
undertaken to identify students who have an aptitude and desire to learn a band
instrument (woodwind, brass or percussion).
Department funding provides selected
children with one small group lesson, of half hour duration per week. As part
of the program, students are expected to attend a before school rehearsal for
either String Ensemble or Concert Band.
Parents with students who have been selected into either Strings or Band have the option of partaking in the Student Resource Scheme (SRS). The SRS is a user-charging scheme operated by schools to provide parents with the mechanism to access individual student resources that are not funded by the government. If parents do not wish to participate in the SRS, they will be required to provide their child/ren with all items that would otherwise be provided as detailed below.
Strings and Band materials required if parents choose NOT to participate in the SRS include:
* Tutor Book
* Display Folder
* Ensemble repertoire for rehearsals (sheet music)
* Music Bags
