Why chess? . . . More to the point, why not chess?

Well-documented research shows that chess can: Raise IQ scores; strengthen problem-solving skills; enhance memory and concentration; improve reading and mathematical skills; foster critical, creative and original thinking; teach logical and sequential thinking; and demonstrate the importance of decision-making and consequences.

Chess Club at Pimpama State School is on every Friday at 2nd Break in Mr Junor’s classroom (5B). It is open to everyone of all ages and grades.  Regardless if you know how to play or not come along and have a go. We can teach you the chess rules and skills. This isn't a competition, it is for fun and friendship! What a great way to spend your Friday.

In addition to Chess Club, Coomera Rivers State School hosts a Cluster Chess Tournament every term, in conjunction with Gardiner Chess. Students play chess against students from other schools as well as attending coaching sessions to learn new strategies and tips on how to improve their chess game. The competitions are run in the divisions. Junior (P&1) Intermediate (2-4) and Senior (5&6). The objective is to get as many players involved in improving their chess capabilities through playing and coaching.
